Is Something Wrong… or Is It a Festival?

The noise started suddenly.
Boom.
Clang.
Music.
Laughter.
Drums that felt like they were dancing on the ground.
Milo froze in the middle of the street.
“…Is the city breaking?” he whispered.
Bobo dropped his snack.
“Should we hide?”
Luna looked around calmly. Lights blinked everywhere. People smiled. Children ran past with colorful ribbons.
“No one looks scared,” she said. “That’s a good sign.”
Tiki peeked out of the backpack.
“Either this is a celebration… or the happiest emergency ever.”
Firecrackers popped in the distance.
Milo jumped.
“That one looked angry.”
A group of children ran by, laughing.
“Why are they happy?” Bobo asked.
“When loud things happen at home, everyone tells me to be quiet.”
A man nearby overheard them and smiled.
“Today is a festival,” he said. “We celebrate together.”
Milo blinked.
“…Together together?”
“Yes,” the man laughed. “Loud together.”
Music grew louder.
Drums thumped like happy hearts. Bells chimed. Someone danced in the street without caring who watched.
Milo leaned closer to Luna.
“Are we allowed to stand here?”
Luna smiled.
“Here, joy is shared.”
Bobo clapped accidentally… then kept clapping.
His feet started moving.
“I don’t know what I’m doing,” he said, dancing badly,
“but I think my legs are celebrating.”
Tiki groaned.
“Oh no. He’s contagious.”
A woman handed them small sweets wrapped in paper.
“For the festival,” she said warmly.
Milo hesitated.
“For… us?”
She nodded.
“Everyone.”
Milo took one carefully.
“…People give food when it’s noisy?”
Luna laughed softly.
“Yes. Noise doesn’t mean trouble everywhere.”
Milo looked around again.
This time, he didn’t flinch at the sounds.
He listened.
And smiled.
Fireworks burst into color above them.
Bobo gasped.
“It’s like the sky is laughing!”
Milo nodded.
“I thought something was wrong.”
Tiki said quietly,
“Sometimes joy just sounds loud.”
When the noise faded a little, Milo stretched his arms.
“I think,” he said slowly,
“I understand now.”
Luna looked at him.
“Understand what?”
“That loud isn’t bad everywhere,” Milo replied.
“Sometimes it means people are happy together.”
Bobo raised his sweet.
“To loud happiness!”
They all laughed.
